Let me guess, this is the first case where parents are being accused of something when a child did the crime. Isn't the legal age to own a firearm set to 18 and one cannot buy it or ammunition without an adult present? Setting an example.
Girl, this is an interesting morning subject/question.
The law here in this country is a bit... finicky. Age limits are set to suit the majority or those in power, rather than really make a difference, but that's besides the point here, or not.
How many school shootings were there in the past, oh, let's say, ten years? Most of those kids were proclaimed 'unstable', 'mentally ill' or 'challenged'. Do you know how many kids under the legal age handle weapons during deer season?
It is the parents responsibility to teach the kids all there is about guns, especially if they have them in the house, let alone buy them for the kids under the legal age limit. Like I said, the legal age limit is a bit questionable here because you can get a job before you're 16, pay taxes, get your own car, but you cannot have a drink or a cigarette before you're 18 and 21. But you're allowed to fight in a war at the age of 18, maybe even before then.
Okay, now that I've got that little tidbit out of my system, I think the parents were at fault to a degree but not as far as the charges go. Do you know how many parents have no clue what goes on in their kids' lives because they simply don't have the time? Yes, in this case, they knew more than most, so they should have done something.
The legal system here is so screwed up as is. It's hard to be a judge on it.
Since we're on the subject of kids... Did you hear about the Montana case? The parents refused to let their child (14) do a gender transformation and apparently they left the state. If they came back, they'll be sentenced for not giving in to their child's ridiculous wishes.
I'm all for 'be whatever you wish to be' but this is not something small, like a change of style in clothes. There's too much of that going on.
Okay, I'll get off my high horse. It's too much for this early in the day.
