In an effort to make the Vale more engaging and fun, I need to know your ideas that you want added here, and any current tasks you want changed or updated. I'd love to see new task suggestions as well.

Well, let me start. Discussion about the tasks:

*BulletBr* Is 500 characters minimum just right?
*BulletBr* Do we need to just focus on reviewing writing compositions? Or have a separate points for reviews of none writing items (forums, surveys, and other items)
*BulletBr* Do we need to update product reviews and make it limited to book only? Or have a separate points for non book product reviews?
*BulletBr* For blog post, do we need to add a minimum word count?

Good questions.

250 characters or more at minimum for sure. 500 might be okay. It is with me but don't know about others.

Separate points for nonwriting items. It can be 10 XP. Less than writing.

I don't know about product reviews. 🌻 pwheeler ~ love joy peace Author IconMail Icon would be a good one to ask.

If so, then 100 words would be okay. I know I have been doing less than 40 words but more than 30 but could still be okay not counting it. I wasn't before.

I loved the Dragondawn's Adventure to the Enchanted Floating Islands. Hopefully we get some more things like that. *Smile*

With regards to your questions

500 characters seems good to me. *Smile*

I feel like with reviews regardless of the item (Polls, madlibs, word searches, poems, writing, essays) the effort to writing a review out and sharing feedback to authors is more or less the same especially if there is a character count required. I don't think there's an advantage in limiting reviewing to particular item types. It would just mean there would be less items available to review overall.

I've been doing a lot of video game product reviews myself since I was a fun opportunity to write about my opinions on various games I played. *Smile* On my end while I love having the option to be able to review games I'll be ok and adapt if you prefer to make product reviews book only.

My recommendation though if you do decide to change or modify any tasks or point values maybe provide a couple of days notice to give us a chance to adapt to them if they wind up making things more challenging for us. I plan a lot of my writing / reviewing strategy in advance so it would be helpful to be able to adjust accordingly.

Here are my proposed changes in assigning points:

Review of Writing items: AS IS
Blog post (no minimum requirement): 15 XP
Blog post (minimum of 500 Words): 30 XP
Product Review on BOOK item: 250 XP
Product Review on Non-BOOK: 200 XP


Merit Badge in Visit WdC 7 [Click For More Info] Awarded for visiting the site every day for a week . This badge can be earned over and over again. Each of these badges adds one (1) Community Recognition!

Sounds good. I posted one more Game Product review this morning but will adjust to any new scoring going forward. *Smile*

A couple questions concerning the tasks. I apologize if these have been previously answered.

First, how many times can one item count for XP? For example, if someone were to write a story in a static item, enter it into the Writer's Cramp, win the Writer's Cramp, and use it for their entry into I Write, would that be 160 XP? Or, more simply, are the XP awarded separately for entering a contest and winning it, or only for whichever is the highest XP level achieved?

Second, does the "participate in a member-hosted monthly contest" task reset monthly for each separate contest or for all of them? If someone were to enter three different contests, would that be 75 XP for each contest entered (total of 225) or only 75 XP for the first contest entered, and a different contest can be selected the next month for that task?

I like that idea. More effort more points with blog and product reviews sounds good.

Good questions Abby!

For your first question, one particular item will get points for winning in Writing Cramp and it will also get points if used for entering in I Write. Plus the creation of that item alone also gets you points. So you get three separate points for just that item. As long as you provide links for me to validate it in your report, then it counts.

Second, you'll get points per contest, not per member. So if one member hosts five different contests and you happen to join all five, you'll get points for each.

It's your activity, so I'm fine with whatever you decide. You have put a lot of work and time into this and it shows!

For the 500 character minimum, you're talking about reviews, right? I receive a lot of shorter ones, but almost all the ones I send are longer. So for me, it's fine. Others might want it lower though.

I personally like things simple but it's not that hard to check word count on blog posts and the extra points for longer ones are nice.

It'd be great if we received points for donating to charity auctions here. Though I imagine the points should be earned on the day that the things are given, not when pledged?

I'll post to this thread as I think of other things.

Regarding Product Review. I'll be adjusting points into as follows:

Submit a Product Review [Type: Book] with more than 500 Words :: 500XP
Submit a Product Review [Type: Book] with less than 500 Words :: 250 XP
Submit a Product Review [Type: All Non-Book] with more than 500 Words :: 200 XP
Submit a Product Review [Type: All Non-Book] with less than 500 Words :: 100 XP


This is to encourage everyone to provide an in-depth product reviews, especially on Book product types. This change will take effect on February 24, 2024

I think email should be aN alternative to validating XP in addition to the forum post.

As far as word count in product reviews, I don't think it gives us an option to check. Also, it has numerous boxes to add information, so the count would be all of the boxes. I can check my product reviews I've done to see if it shows word count for all boxes.

Where is the word count for product reviews? I've not noticed it before.

It's not shown but I'll count it myself.

I don't know how to check the length of our product reviews since it's a form we're filling out. What about breaking them up by the length of the books being reviewed? Like short stories and shorter (I don't know, 150 pages long or something?) get 250 XP and reviews for Novellas and Novels (over whatever page length you think makes sense) get 500XP?

I'd have to say, stuff involving Campfires and Interactives. Not everyone can just make a story, but it's not too difficult to add a chapter to an interactive, or an addition to a campfire. Granted, the points could be a bit lower, but it would be good for those who like participating in those to be rewarded that way too.

The latter. You can't have two or more eggs in one Rarity. So if you have ab existing RARE dragon and had bought another RARE egg (or been gifted with), it will be merged.

A certain amount of XPs awarded on either the tamer's bday or the dragon's hatch day.

I have a question, GERVIC Author Icon. Can I just create one post and update that one post as and when to avoid creating multiple posts? And you can just check on it once a month.

Yes, for the blog post itself... but we get points for writing a poem or story and entering it in the Writer's Cramp, so I thought we could get points for entering in Blog City or Blog Circle of Friends too.

Yeah, understood. Like BCOF and Blog City, they are the same with the Happiness Port because they are not contests, but challenges. I too wonder how to calculate the XPs based on that.
