I'm going to go a different way with this and say that, while technology can create problems, it is also something that is very helpful. Some of the kids, teens and even adults I work with are non-verbal. Since I work with individuals on the autism spectrum and with other developmental conditions, there are some who don't communicate easily. There are some great advances in technology that really help give someone the chance to express themselves. It could be as simple as saying they want an orange. Some programs have come out that help to show the steps to do a task and with use could give someone a chance at independence they might not have had in the past.
So, yes there are reasons to be cautious about technology. However, a parent can also find ways to really use it to make things better too.
