I went to a public elementary school and a Catholic high school (which is also publicly funded).
Even the catholic school had a compulsory comparative religion course, which was basically a lot of history. Was it westernised and whitewashed? Obviously. It was 35 years ago lol
I agree with waltz that a comparative religion course is fine in a public school, although probably as an elective.
Now, where I am, it's lower risk of of going sideways, so my perspective is different. There are places where I would question who was going to teach it, and that perhaps it was best left out of the school entirely.
It's not really yes or no, I suppose. It's completely context and location based.
