Well given that social websites and media have limited options on how to show support for someone, it's complicated at best. I try to show kindness in my reactions to others posts by at least liking, caring or hearting. That way, even if I am at a loss for words, I can show the original poster I care. I've never been a good social person so kind interactions of any kind are a learned art form. As far as Online fundraisers and petitions are concerned. They make me weary. Not everyone can donate money. Especially not those who depend on others like children or stay at home spouses. Also I'm not sure petitions and form letters count as kindness—it depends on their aim and who actually listens. In addition, there are so many dishonest people in the world, I don't know who I can trust. That makes online kindness much harder. For example is that person really offering me a job or are they trying to steal my credit card or personal data? Is this person really a dying cancer patient with no money or a con artist? It just makes me automatically want to put up walls. Chat rooms are probably the hardest. I don't visit them because so much can go wrong and people can be insensitive or out and out lying to the person they're chatting with. I won't say that online kindness is dead, but it is more difficult that being kind in the real world. |
