I have written longer stuff, even book length, but these days I concentrate on short stories. As regards style, mostly I write to be as clear as possible without becoming too wordy. It's about efficiency more than anything else. The story itself also dictates how the thing is written - some stories require to be told in ways that give extra meaning to the reason for the tale. And a few demand that an entirely experimental form be invented. I like those but they don't happen often.
As regards poetry, I've been a free verser all my life and still feel most comfortable in it. If I want to say something serious and/or profound, free verse is always the choice. But lately I've become interested in form and rhyme as well as meter (which all my poetry has). I find that these more traditional matters push me into lighter subjects and comedy. At my age, that's not a bad thing, although I'm quite aware that it makes writing more of a word game than something that changes the world. I gave up on that long ago.
