Honoring Our Veterans - Challenge

aloha, this is (more-or-less) my first posting in one of your contests, and I'm not confident about successfully doing it: do I have it correct if I say/write the Item # (not the actual body of the verse?), Where?
and so, this is a very small piece dealing with the Vietnam 'Police Action'; it is the only piece of my writing that (despite many attempts, this is the sum-total of what I have been able to figure-out and actually feel confident-in the finished product - it was, of course, a most-trying time period (to live thru) everybody lost Somebody; in response to a review of the piece, by an actual Vietnam veteran, and so his words were of the utmost importance to me (I tried to find that review and the feedback, both ways, that followed, in responce, which at one point, caused me to say (something like), " Vietnam, the war nobody wants to talk about" (his words) to which I responded [ something like, "Yes, whether you went or didn't, whether you stayed home ( bearing the horror of seeing the name of a guy you were in H.S. with just a year or 2 ago, in the obits) or not, Everybody got covered in the noxious slime & puke-moral lies; while Cronkite & Dan Rather would not 'let it go', every night bringing Us, (right into Our living rooms), the mind-numbing nightmarish Horror [ watching Our men being poured into an unwinable Hell-on-Earth, produced such a compelling a visual urge (of the experience) to go-no-further, and thats what eventually began the questioning, which then began to erode support for the continuence of hostilities, and eventually was what convinced Johnson to give his infamous, mid Summer stunner, 'I will not seek, and WILL Not Accept the nomination of my Party for POTUS"; the honest work of the 'Fourth Estate' Educating Every Citizen to question their former knee-jerk support ],
It (truly) Was a case of an Informed electorate confronted with a military debacle (we should Never even been In) all that was left was Marines pushing million dollar military helicopters off the deck an American ship loaded to the eyeballs with Vietnamese citizens Into the Sea.... and, of course opened the door for RFK to recieve the party's nomination, Until .... and it was finally the 'End of the innocence', and All and Any one thought about the Larger picture, made their personal decisions, More Informed /
