Well, having read science fiction almost my entire life, I've seen speculation about both good and bad aspects of it. The best SF involves both (like Star Trek or Blade Runner).
Even Terminator pivoted to "good AI" in the sequels.
This isn't a fully-formed thought in my head yet, but as for the downsides, one could argue that as it replaces human striving and creativity, we lose something, just like we lost something when we created other automation, rendering older skills obsolete (for example, I spent a lot of time learning how to process and develop camera film; these days, it's a niche thing). The question is, do the benefits outweigh the downsides? And I don't have an answer for that.
But I am very glad I never had kids, who would end up finding out the hard way.
