This contest will feature bi-weekly prompts in two-month schedules, and winners will qualify for entry into "Invalid Item"  , where the grand prize is publication in an anthology. THIS CHANGE WILL BE IMPLEMENTED SOME TIME IN THE COMIG WEEKS, AND THE CONTESTS WILL RETURN IN THE NEW FORMAT FOR THE NEXT ROUND ON THE 18TH OF FEBRUARY. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE DURING THIS PROCESS, AND WE HOPE TO SEE YOUR SUBMISSION IN THE UPCOMING ROUND. CURRENT CONTEST SCHEDULE: January - March Round 1: January 7 - 18; Results Jan. 20th Round 2: January 21 - February 1; Results Feb. 3rd Round 3: February 4 - 15; Results Feb. 17th "Invalid Item" Begins April 1st How will the contest be structured?Every round, there will be three two-week-long primary rounds. Winners of these rounds will be eligible to enter "Invalid Item" , the elite level for Dark Side contests.Each round is open for submissions for two weeks, ending the second Friday; Judges will deliberate on the second Saturday, and results will be released on Sunday. Each week's prompt will be available starting at noon on the previous Saturday. What will the prompts consist of?Prompts for this contest will be fairly detailed. They may include styles of writing that entries should emulate or genres into which entries should fit. In general, the prompts will focus on taking something cliche, well-known, or commonplace and making it new and exciting. Submissions can fall into any genre and/or style. Once per schedule, we will feature open prompts. What are the rules?Entries to this contest must adhere to the following rules:  Entries should be prose (short story, narrative, dialogue, etc.). Poetry will notbe accepted. Entries are due by 11:59 WDC time on the end date. Results will be announced two days later. Entries should fall within a word limit of 1000-5000 words. Some leeway may begiven, but submissions falling outside of this range may be subject to disqualification. Entries should be rated no higher than 18+. Each author is limited to one submission per round. Entries cannot be edited after the submission period (see schedule above). Entries do not have to be newly written for this contest; however, the promptswill be unique enough that it will probably be necessary. If there are less than three entries, the contest cannot be judged. Instead, eacheach entry will receive the equivalent of an Honorable Mention and be entered into the next open-prompt round. A single story cannot be entered into this contest more than once in a two-monthperiod. The same piece can be entered into the next two-month schedule. However, stories entered into "Invalid Item" , regardless of placement, cannot be reenteredinto any Dark Side contest. Authors of first place entries will be emailed the PassKey to enter "Invalid Item" . Need any help?Dark Side runs multiple contests on a weekly basis. GP donations are greatly appreciated.
