One of the founding fathers of science fiction and a profound philosopher

Olaf Stapledon wrote in the first half of the 20th century and many of his ideas formed the foundation stones of the genre that became science fiction. Star Maker was his magnum opus!
The cover is from the first edition of Star Maker.

However he is rmemebered only by a few as his ideas were so deep seated and profound and his time scales enormous and his writing is not easy to read.. He presaged the Foundation series of Asimov and developed the ideas of evolution of societies and self aware species; Themes which have preoccupied Science Fiction subsequently.
