You quickly realize that you have only one way out of this. Even escaping the situation won't work, as the police are going to keep after you until they deal with this. So the best way to make yourself innocent in the eyes of the law is to convince them of your innocence, and the best way to do that is to use the mind control.
So you feel the gun in your pocket, and slide your thumb across to move the setting to "mind control." This is going to be tough: you're not sure if you can outdraw anyone, much less a group of officers who already have pretty good reason to suspect you're a murderer. But you have to try, so you pull out the gun and shoot. As you fire the gun at them in succession, you shout "stand still!" a bunch of times in hopes of covering all of them. It's hard to tell with mind control since you don't see any change in anyone you hit, but once you think you got all of them, you say, "listen, I didn't do it. Stop thinking I did." Then you pause with a realization. Reaching into your pocket, you take out a receipt from earlier in the day, flip the switch on the gun, and transform it into a larger piece of paper with writing on it.
"Here," you say. "This is Dr. Marks' suicide note. Bring it back to the station, tell everyone you found it in his office on another sweep, and close the case."
Well. That was an audacious plan, but if it works you can get on with being a normal college student again. Of course, you can't tell just by looking whether all the officers are under your control.
