"All depends on what you feel like, I guess," replied the handsome fat guy, as he mindlessly placed a hand on his belly, "There's plenty of restaurants in town. What do you feel like?"
"Well, is there a place with good, traditional food and an historic atmosphere? An older hotel, a converted manor house?" Lisa asked, thinking that an older restaurant might show the social and dietary changes that had clearly happened here.
"Certainly! You could try the Manor, or Maplelawn," the guy suggested. Then a look of resolve crossed his face. "Say, this may seem forward, but could I treat you to lunch at Maplelawn? I was deciding myself where to grab dinner, and if you're new here, I could tell you a bit about the town as we have a good meal."
"Yes, thanks, that sounds great," Lisa replied affirmatively. Would it be so easy to get people to talk here, she wondered, as she pushed away the idea that a really quite attractive man had just asked her out for dinner, literally one minute after meeting her?
"Good. We'll be at the Maplelawn in just a few minutes. After lunch, if you like, I'd be happy to take you to city hall. My name's Josh, by the way," he added.
What seemed like just a minute later Josh hauled himself to his feet and pushed the stop button. Lisa rose, and followed him out onto the street, where a low brick wall and a gateway separated the sidewalk from a classic old hotel, verandah and all. Josh walked easily beside her as they came up to the verandah and were greeted by...
