Chapter #6
Tutors and Invites
by: Unknown
"YES YES YES YES YES YES!" Jade begin shouting enthusiastically, before being shushed by the librarian.
"Sorry" She whispered to the librarian. Then she turned to you and Sapphire. "Yeah. I can't wait. I love history."
"Wait, if you love history, then why do you need a tutor?" You ask.
"The teacher said I had trouble paying attention. I can't help it. My mind wanders a lot. So she assigned me a tutor to give me any information I missed in class." Jade explains.
"Yeah. Jade is pretty smart in some subjects like art and history." Sapphire tells you. "But she is failing math and science, so she has another tutor for those. But we're wasting time. Let's get started."
For the next few hours, Sapphire helped Jade with any information she didn't get in class. You also chimed in from time to time, since history was a good subject of yours when you were in high school. And Sapphire was right, Jade was pretty smart, just unfocused. There were times where her face would go blank and either you or Sapphire had to bring her back to reality.
There was also the fact that Jade was VERY talkative. Once a topic she liked came up, she would ramble on and on about it and forgot the reason she was here. Sapphire would have to stop her to get her back on track.
Eventually, it was time for the library to close and you, Jade, and Sapphire left. Jade insisted on carrying you on her shoulder. As you left, Sapphire was talking.
"...so she wound up being stuck in our door frame for 12 weeks. Food and bathroom breaks were a bit of a problem." She finished her story.
You chuckled at remembering that, but Jade was stone faced. "It doesn't seem that funny. Laughing at another person's distress. She can't help it if all her weight distributes to her buttocks." She said.
"You never see the humor in things." Sapphire replied. "Oh. I just remembered. I was invited to a party tomorrow and I can bring two guests."
You're eyes widened at the word "party". A party meant there would be boys. And they might try to hit on Sapphire. "I'm not sure if I should let you go." You say.
"Dad, I wasn't going to initially, but as I was tutoring, I thought that it might be a good idea for Jade to go to make friends." Sapphire explained.
"NONONONONONONONONONO." Jade replied quickly. "I hate crowds. I hate people looking at me. I hate loud noises."
"It's going to be at the old discotheque." Sapphire said.
That got Jade's attention. "Really? Maybe I will go then." She said. "But only if I can bring earplugs. And I'm bringing my own drinks and snacks. I don't like eating other peoples food."
"OK." Sapphire said.
"I still don't think..." You begin.
"Dad, the invite said I could bring 2 guests. And my other guest is you. It's a teen party, but the host doesn't care if one or two parents show up." Sapphire told you.
That calmed you down a bit. At least you could keep boys from hitting on her. But that did mean you had a risk of ending up as someone's snack. "Ok, what's the party?" You ask.
