Chapter #42

You explain that she didn’t mishear.

She didn’t exactly respond well when she learned about being made partly from life fibers. But she has matured a lot since then. Unless none of that has happened yet and if not, maybe I can change things for the better. I could save her from some pain. This is all completely insane anyway. I mean this can’t be real. Despite your thoughts, the feeling of soft warm skin beneath you and the minty wind produced every time Ryuko exhaled told you this was your new reality. You took a moment to steady yourself. “I’m (Insert name), by the way.”

There was a slight recoil from Ryuko though she continued to smile. “There is no way I’m going to be able to say that. How about I call you Chief instead? Just until I can think of something better.”

Your name had never seemed particularly hard to say to you but you had grown up with it and for the moment it didn’t seem worth complaining about. “That’s fine. But Ryuko. Okay, I'm going to say something very strange but please let me finish.”

Curiosity was beginning to take hold of Ryuko and her fingers raised up behind you protectively. At the same time she brought you closer to her face. “Sure. I want to know what’s going on too after all. You don’t find four centimeters tall people every day.”

Or building sized teenagers. “You didn’t mishear. I really am from another world. I don’t know how it happened but when I said I saw you on television.” As you spoke you could feel your concern growing. “I meant I saw you on an animated show. At least I believe it was you. You sound and look just like the character on it. Maybe it wasn’t you! But you look so much like the character that I. Well. Does the words life fiber mean anything to you?”

Curiosity became surprised and Ryuko straightened her eyes widening as she looked down at you. “How did you learn about that!”

It was instinctive. At the raising of her voice and so close to her face you tried to crawl backwards and succeeded for a few moments. Before slamming into her fingers. There wasn’t time to speak however.

“My bad. I’m not angry, you just caught me off guard. What else can you tell me? Let’s see how well this all matches up.”

You wanted to reject that idea immediately. If this was early on in the story and she confronted Nui Harime early she likely wouldn’t survive. She would have to grow a lot before being prepared to handle that. “You’re taking this better than I expected. I thought learning you’re a character from a show might shock you a bit.”

A brief laugh came from Ryuko. “Says the little guy currently in my hand. You don’t seem all that troubled.”

The truth of her words struck with more weight than you expected. “I guess worrying if you’re real or not is kind of pointless. I think therefore I am?”

There was a shrug from Ryuko. Clearly she hadn’t even given the situation that much thought. “I’m more interested in learning what happened in that show of yours. What’s the name anyway?”
