For your whole life, you’ve lived in Mossui Town in the Kitakami Region. There’s a popular old legend about the scary Pokemon Ogerpon, who lives somewhere in the region and attacked the town long ago. You’ve heard the legend lots of times, but even though everyone believes Ogerpon is dangerous and frightening, you’ve always wanted to meet her and see what she’s really like. As you’ve gotten older, you’ve tried exploring the wilderness and looking for her, but you’ve never had any success.
For now, you need to put your searching on hold, since there’s a festival coming up in a few days, and you have to get ready for it. One thing you need to do is get a mask, since everyone will wear masks in the festival. While you’re walking around town and wondering what kind of mask to wear, you meet a strange traveling merchant selling masks. He’s happy and friendly, so you decide to take a look at what he has. One mask catches your eye. It’s made of wood, and is painted yellow and carved so it looks like a Joltik’s face. It looks pretty good, so you decide to buy it. The salesman thanks you, then goes around town, trying to sell more of his masks. Meanwhile, you decide to go out looking for Ogerpon again, since you now have your mask for the festival.
Taking the mask with you, you go for another walk outside of town, keeping an eye out for any signs of the legendary ogre. Eventually, you get bored, and decide to put on the mask and see how it fits. As soon as you put it on your face, though, you feel a weird sensation like you just got zapped, and you grow dizzy. You try to take off the mask, but it’s stuck to your face. And then, worst of all, you suddenly realize that you’re shrinking! The Joltik Mask must have some kind of magic power... and before you know it, you’ve shrunk to the size of a Joltik!
The mask is still stuck to your face, but you don’t really care about that. You’re terrified about being so tiny, out here in the wilderness with nobody to help you. You begin to retrace your steps, hoping you can get back to town before any wild Pokemon attack you.
You don’t get far before you see something shadowy moving around the trees, and then it emerges and approaches you cautiously. You stare at it. It seems to be a Pokemon, but it’s shaped and sized like an armless young human girl—meaning it’s around ten times your size. It has black legs and feet, a leafy torso, and some kind of big green cloak or headdress draping from its head. Most notably, it’s wearing a big, spiky mask with an evil-looking face on it.
You recognize this Pokemon right away: it’s Ogerpon! You finally found her! But why did she show up right after you shrunk? Was she actually spying on you all along, and she decided to reveal herself out of curiosity after seeing you shrink?
Whatever the reason, she’s coming closer, and soon looms over you, staring down at you with that creepy mask. You just hope all the stories are wrong, and she’s nicer than the legends say she is...
