The circus interrupts your commute

You was on the bus on your usual morning commute. Having to catch the early bus to make into work on time in the city centre. The bus as usual was packed full of commuters and early shoppers. Traffic was gridlocked as usual. "Damn traffic is really bad this morning!" You grumbled. Outside all you could hear was honking from various angry commuters. You could hear and feel thumps. 'Roadworks.. Again' you thought. Usually roadworks were of course carried out at the worst time of day. The thumping grew heavier and you heard crashing sounds. The bus was now starting to vibrate with each thump. You and the other passengers gasped looking outside to see what was causing the commotion.

You couldn't see anything thanks to the surrounding buildings. Being just outside of the centre many buildings here were smaller sized skyscrapers. Mostly office building. Restaurants and shops positioned between them. From a street ahead people came running out en masse, not just running along the pavements but down the street itself. They even ran over the stuck cars. "What the fuck is goin... Oh shit!" A passenger near you screamed as from down the street and behind the fleeing crowd emerged the titanic foot of an animal from the city's circus...

So what animal's foot was it?

Time: 8:04am.
