Chapter #5

Revelations

    by: Mtari47 Author IconMail Icon
Hermione was dreaming. Somehow, she knew this. She was aware of the existence of lucid dreams, but this is the first time she was aware she was having one. Or at least, she was having something similar to a lucid dream, since while she wasn't waking up, she couldn't control her dream like she heard you could do in one.

Altough, it maybe makes more sense she is having multiple dreams at the same time than a single one. She saw herself as a ruler in many of them, sometimes as a benevolent one, other times as a tyrannical one. There were also a few times in which she became a traveler who roamed around the world, among other more unusual situations. Every time she changed her situation, her identity changed as well, changing between different men and women, but always magical. In fact, one thing that was consistent between all dreams is the fact she was always the most powerful magic user in the world. Entire groups of people came from around the world to see her, many praying to her as if she was some deity.

She couldn't understand it. Why was she seeing all this? Is this a play of her mind on her insecurities? Because she wanted attention so much, now her mind is making her believe she got all the attention she ever wanted? If it is, then she wasn't finding this funny and she hoped whatever part of her brain was showing all of this would just end it.

Eventually, the images finally stopped, and she could feel herself waking up. Her eyelids started opening.

"She's waking up!" She heard a voice around her. Honestly, she was feeling like her brain was about to explode and loud voices were not something she needed right now. After fully opening her eyes, she started seeing who was around her. Harry and Ron, the two boys she had seen before fainting, were there, along with Professor McGonagall, Madam Ponfrey and... Professor Dumbledore?!

"Professor Dumbledore?!" Seeing Hogwarts' Headmaster was enough to get Hermione's full attention. Why was he here? Did she do something wrong? Oh, of course she did. She destroyed not only the bathroom door, but multiple walls of Hogwarts at the same time with whatever stunt it was the one she pulled with the troll. This was it. She was getting expelled. He must be here to inform her she wasn't welcome anymore in Hogwarts.

"Hello, Ms. Granger." Despite Hermione's panic, Dumbledore kept his calm, grandfatherly way of speaking. "I am happy to see you have finally awaken. I was expecting you to awaken only tomorrow given everything you passed today, but it seems your mental fortitude is even stronger one would initially think."

Dumbledore's words were not enough to lessen Hermione's worries. In fact, the more he talks, the more nervous she becomes about her eventual expulsion.

"I-Is this about that I think it is? I'm expelled?" She couldn't help herself. She needed the confirmation now to not increase her tension even more.

"Expelled?" The confusion was apparent at Dumbledore's face, but then he remembered the events that led to this moment. "Ah, I see. You are worried about what you did to the castle, right?"

"Y-Yes..." Hermione couldn't understand why the Headmaster was so calm. Her actions would expel anyone in a normal school. Even fine her parents for compensation of property damage. Hogwarts couldn't be too different, right?

"Ms. Granger, what you did was act in self-defense. Besides, it wasn't your fault a troll invaded the castle. I couldn't in sane mind expel a student because of seomthing they had no fault of their own." Dumbledore's head shaked, still with his serene smile.

"B-But..." Hermione couldn't believe she was hearing. She was safe? That easily?

"Ms. Granger..." This time, it was Professor McGonagall speaking. "Even if we wanted to punish you for the damage you caused, the change in your situation would make that decision way more complicate than it already is."

"Huh?" Change in her situation? What situation? "S-Sorry, but I don't understand."

"Ms. Granger, have you read the books talking about the History of the Wizarding World?" At Hermione's words, Dumdledore knew it was time to start explaining what happened to Hermione.

"I-I've read the book on the History of Hogwarts, and I also studied the our book of Magical History." She had better read it, given that Professor Binns focus so much in the Goblin Rebellions instead of other subjects.

"Then you might have read about the History of the Avatars of the God of Magic?" Dumbledore asked, with a raised eyebrow.

"Y-Yes. W-What about it?" She didn't know what a subject as important as the one related to the Avatars could have with her situation. Besides, isn't the world currently without one? If they were alive, then news about them would surely have already reached Hogwarts, so it shouldn't matter for her situation.

Perhaps an Avatar passed by Hogwarts once and ordered that students couldn't be expelled by property damage if they were in an act of self-defense? This would surely explain the Headmaster and Professor McGonagall's words, right? Wait, she didn't remember ever reading something like this before, so it can't be correct, unless... Please, she hoped her memory wasn't degrading as well. She was too young for that...

"Then you might already know the last Avatar has been dead by a bit over 100 years. It's by the right time we have a new one among us." At his words, Professor Dumbledore closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "Ms. Granger, I have a request for you."

A request? "W-What is it?" She felt sheepish about her words to the Headmaster.

At that, Dumbledore opened his eyes. "Look deep within yourself and release it." He said.

'Huh?' Hermione liked to pride herself in her intelligence, but she never felt dumber at Professor Dumbledore's words. Look within herself? What did he mean by that?

He must have perceived she was confused, given his next words. "Close your eyes and try to find a spark. Once you find it, release it with everything you can."

Those words didn't make things much clear for Hermione, but she understood he wanted her to do something with her eyes closed. She did so and

Professor Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall, Harry, Ron and Madam Ponfrey were all watching it silently. Harry and Ron were nervours about the whole situation. Harry in specific was in complete disbelief when he heard Ron's words from earlier. Madam Ponfrey, on the other hand, wanted no one to disturb Hermione as she rested, but the gravity of the situation forced her to allow other people who could help the girl.

As for Hermione, she concentrated on her mind and she found something. It felt like a glow. Something raw and connected to magic itself. She never felt something like this before. What this the spark Professor Dumbledore was speaking about? If it was, then she needed to bring it out, but how?

Hermione started grunting, trying to force whatever it was that she was seeing out. At that, the air inside the Hospital Wing started to become windy. The more Hermione forced herself, the stronger the wind became, until...

FLASH!

A bluish-white flame formed itself around Hermione's body, the wind inside the room causing everything to shake. The flames weren't burning her body nor her clothes, but they could be felt by anyone around. The pressure of Hermione's presence became so great everyone around her, including Dumbledore, fell to the ground, but that wasn't the end. Hermione forced herself even more, increasing even more the flames around her. Now it wasn't just the air, but the ground itself was starting to shake, as if an earthquake was hitting Scotland at that very moment. Hermione's presence was rapidly increasing. Now it wasn't just the people in the Hospital Wing, but the people all around Hogwarts were feeling a heavy magical presence. It could be felt even in the surroundings of the castle, with the many magical creatures also feeling that something very powerful was in the castle at that moment.

"Ms. Granger!" Professor McGonagall tried to get Hermione's attention, but she failed. "MS. GRANGER, STOP!" At that, Hermione finally noticed what was happening and opened her eyes. Suddenly, the flames around her body stopped, the wind died and the ground stopped shaking. When she noticed everyone around her in the ground and all the mess of the Hospital Wing, she started to feel panic.

"I-I'm sorry! I-I don't know what happened! It wasn't my intention!" She felt like she was already walking in thin ice. Might as well try to lessen whatever punishment she would get for this.

"A-As I expected..." And with that, Professor Dumbledore finally got up, absolutely sure of what was happening. "This was the final confirmation. No other wizard or witch would be capable of producing such magical aura so easily."

"W-What is happening, Professor?" If the Headmaster had any idea of what was happening to her, she needed that information now.

"What is happening is that you, Ms. Granger, are the new incarnation of the God of Magic." Dumbledore responded.

"... What?" She couldn't have heard it correctly. There is no way what she heard from the Headmaster's voice could be right.

"Ms. Granger, you are the new Avatar of the God of Magic. From this day on-wards, you are now the most important and powerful witch in the entire Wizarding World until the day of your death." Dumbledore kept going, knowing that Hermione wouldn't believe his world outright.

"B-But..." She, the new Avatar of the God of Magic?! That couldn't be right. She was not that important in the grand scheme of things. "Professor, this has to be a mistake!"

"Ms. Granger, the spark you saw was the essence of the God of Magic. Only you have it. I'm sure of my words. You are the new Avatar..."

At that, Hermione went silent, pondering on the words she was listening. If she was the Avatar, that meant she was the most powerful person in the world right now, and that made her feel...
