Elias tumbled through the tight, slick passage, his hands scrabbling for anything to slow his descent. "No, no, no! This can’t be happening!" he shouted, his voice hoarse with terror. The walls throbbed around him, the air thick with a musky, acrid scent that burned his nostrils. Suddenly, the passage widened, and he plummeted, splashing into a shallow, steaming pool. The liquid was hot, stinging his skin, and unmistakably yellow, its sharp, ammonia-like smell overwhelming. He gagged as the taste coated his tongue, bitter and inescapable.
"God, what is this?!" Elias sputtered, wiping his face, only to realize his hands were coated in the same foul liquid. He stumbled to his feet, the pool lapping at his shins, the heat radiating through his body. The cavernous space around him pulsed faintly, the walls glistening in the dim, organic light. He couldn’t tell how large it was or where it led. Time seemed to blur as he waded through the viscous fluid, his eyes stinging, his throat burning with every breath. "How long am I gonna be stuck here?" he muttered, his voice trembling. "I can’t… I can’t stay in this hell!"
