The ship groaned as it was lifted again—but this time, the movement wasn’t rough or playful. It was steady. Controlled. The cockpit was suddenly bathed in soft white light.
Outside, a giant woman stood poised and curious, her expression unreadable.
She wore a sleek slate-gray uniform with subtle insignia on the collar. Her black hair was neatly pulled into a high bun. A pair of sleek lenses—some kind of advanced eyewear—rested over her eyes, which scanned the Spindrift II like it was an artifact.
“Level 3 contact,” she murmured, speaking into a comm device on her wrist. “Possibly sentient. Organic life forms detected inside the object.”
Her voice was calm. Measured. The kind you’d hear in a lab or on a space station. Her tone wasn’t cruel—but it was clinical.
Inside the ship, the crew was tense.
“Did she just say organic life forms?” said Tim. “She doesn’t see us as people.”
“She sees us as data,” replied Diana. “That’s not better.”
The giant woman gently set the ship down inside a massive containment cube—glass walls, padded floor, sealed vents.
“Subject is being relocated to secure observation unit. No aggressive behavior observed.”
Suddenly, mechanical arms folded out from the chamber’s walls—massive, metallic, and slow-moving. One hovered near the ship’s hull. Another began scanning the exterior with beams of light.
Robert stared at the display. “She’s running a full scan. Maybe reverse-engineering us.”
Captain Jones looked out the window again. The woman was now watching from the other side of the chamber, scribbling into a digital pad.
“No signs of hostility. Communication attempt recommended.”
She reached toward a control panel beside the chamber. A speaker clicked on. A deep hum filled the air.
