Chapter #4

Sasuke Uchiha, Hidden Trauma

by: Winnie the Pooh Author IconMail Icon
Sasuke was born into the prestigious Uchiha clan, led by his older brother Itachi.
However, the clan felt marginalized by Konoha. For years, they were relegated to leading the military police and suspected of being involved in the attack of the nine-tailed fox.

This fueled their resentment, pushing them to plan a coup to overthrow the government of Konoha. The village leaders (including Danzo) decided to eliminate the Uchiha before their discontent degenerated into a full-blown rebellion.

Itachi decided to take on the burden of this terrible act, as long as he let his brother Sasuke live. However, the world only knows what has been told: that Itachi was the one who exterminated everyone to satiate his thirst for power.

Sasuke experiences a real trauma, an emotionally intense and painful experience that exceeds the person's processing capabilities, leaving deep marks on the psyche. The term trauma comes from the Greek and means wound, rupture. Inside Sasuke something has broken.

According to psychiatrist Bessel van der Kolk, one of the greatest experts on trauma, traumatic events can imprint themselves on the body and mind, altering emotions, behaviors and even memory.

Those who experience a trauma tend to unconsciously repeat it. They try to relive something with the aim of repairing it. Sasuke distances himself from anyone who tries to help him, convinced that no one can understand him and above all because he is so focused on himself that he loses sight of everything that is happening around him.

Sasuke cannot escape the cycle of trauma because he continues to relive the pattern of loss and betrayal: he leaves Team 7, he entrusts himself to a powerful figure, he lets himself be consumed by anger and resentment. The turning point comes when he discovers the truth about his brother: if Itachi wasn't the enemy, then who is Sasuke?

A trauma is not necessarily a cataclysm or an abuse, but it can be something that is usually not taken into account: unvalidated emotions, emotionally absent parents, constant comparison with others, constant pressure and experiences of rejection.

These subtle traumas do not always generate an immediate collapse, but accumulate over time, affecting our self-esteem, relationships and the way we manage emotions. Eventually we get used to everything, even pain. But it is important to remember that we are not that pain.

And you, what silent trauma do you think you have suffered?
