You finish your shift on autopilot, the GeneFlex tube burning a spot in your pocket the whole time. The rain has stopped by the time you lock up, but the air is still damp and cold.

Your tiny apartment greets you the same way it always does: the quiet hum of the mini-fridge, the faint smell of instant noodles, the bed pushed up against the wall because there’s nowhere else for it to go.

You drop your jacket, pull out the tube, and set it on the counter like it might run away. The SAFE and UNSAFE settings glare back at you. Levi’s words keep replaying in your head: Slower, manageable. Works on anyone.

You open the tube. The SAFE pen feels cool in your hand. You spin it between your fingers, the injector tip catching the kitchen light.

Your pulse is steady, but your thoughts are all over the place. What if it’s nothing but overpriced snake oil? What if it works exactly like Levi said?

You set the pen down and take a long breath. Not yet. Not tonight. You want to control this, not rush it. The SAFE version is supposed to be gradual, and you want to see every step.

You place the pen back in the tube, slide it under your bed, and lie down. The city hum outside is a little softer here, but your mind doesn’t shut off. You picture the mirror in the morning, wondering if you’ll look the same, wondering if you’ll even wait until morning to find out.
