The Tale of the Saplings [13+] A poem based on the Garden of Eden Story, exploring the meaning of the trees. |

Although to jaded eyes, this might seem like simple quatrains, the same form that we as kindergartner poets broke our teeth on, you used this very well. Here, in this forest of sentient trees, two saplings are born, later named "Life", the other "Knowledge". Severe and exact instructions are given the two and their hearts are judged. Both are found to be humble and accepted, (thank goodness). During these instructions, I especially appreciated this stanza: “Heed the beings of light that are in the garden; Very wise are they, they know the right way. The Bearer of Light, he is the Warden; He was with me, when I planted the trees.” - - - - Great rhyming, outstanding rhythm! I saw the same in nearly every other verse in this poem! The ramifications or implications of that poem are vast and deep. No uneducated wanna-be writer could write this. This piece shows craftiness, cleverness, guile, wit and a keen understanding of harmony and rhythm. Outside of some classic literature that I've read a long time ago, I would place this poem equal to any little poetry or prose that J.R.R. Tolkien ever wrote. When I read this poem, I thought of Tolkien, and the rock band, "Rush" who produced a song called "Trees" on their "2112" album, a long time ago. Just as it has been depicted in several films like the Lord of the Rings and Avatar, I believe that a forest of trees are interlinked and communicate with each other in their own way. Your poem here, falls in line with that perception. I wish I could find the words to tell you how much I loved this piece. You have the rhythm, balance and message down perfectly. Your use of punctuation throughout this long poem was exemplary, your spelling perfect. I thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for sharing this fascinating, nearly epic poem with this community. I can completely relate with your writing style, so please keep on writing and sharing!
