For a short FF, this is good. I like the irony of it, and the subtle twist at the end was perfect, although I'll admit I kind of had a feeling it was going to end that way, or something close to it.
Still, you did a great job with the prompt phrase, and maybe Bess shouldn't have been thinking about 'rubbing it in his face' like that, so she sort of deserved it.
