Greetings, BD Mitchell! I am reviewing this because today is your 20th WdC Anniversary. Wow! You've been here almost as long as me!
First of all, my reviews are intended to be helpful and encouraging, not hurtful in any way. Use what you feel works for you, and leave the rest.
The Positives/What I Liked
Oh my gosh! Have you ever considered sending this to a publisher? This captivated me all the way through, and that's something because I get distracted easily if I'm not hooked right away.
I got a kick out of your main character--the wizard. His personality is likable and he's got a funny side.
Your descriptions are great. The imagery was easily imagined. A good amount of action, too.
A few favorites...
Shingles hung from the roof like dry leaves
It was an active silence. Looming. Watchful. Wrathful. It was the most deafening silence I’d ever heard.
the words were made of floors creaking, dust settling, and wind whipping through gaping window panes.
There was a faint hiss, like the march of a thousand tiny snakes.
I could definitely keep this list going!
Suggestions/Comments to Consider
I have absolutely NO suggestions. To me? This is perfection.
Final Thoughts
Professional wizard Michael Reeve is a memorable character. I'm thrilled that I discovered him today.
