![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() You only spelled it out in the last couple of paragraphs, but I did think quite early on that the picture you were describing reminded me of something I had seen in a superhero movie. The farm itself, and his parents. The way he had given up that life to live in the city with her. How he wasn’t supposed to die, not ever, but everybody loses one battle in their lives. It was all very cleverly done to make me wonder if that could really be it, but you didn’t confirm it until the end (at which point I felt quite pleased with myself that I had figured it out). The descriptions were excellent and you made it very easy to imagine the setting and the character as well as her emotions at coming back to the farm after many years. I liked the way you structured the story, with her visit bringing back memories that filled in the blanks for the readers, like the first time she met his parents, or how he told her about his childhood. It worked well to make both the main character and her husband and his family well rounded and relatable. ![]() I didn’t notice any grammatical errors and the only suggestion I have is regarding the line spacing. There is a rather large gap in the middle of the tale which looks like a formatting issue. I’m not sure if perhaps you tried to post an image there (I understand from the description that the prompt for this contest was a picture) but there is just a blank space. As I was reading, I assumed that this was deliberate and thought that the second part would be something different, perhaps a different point of view, but the story simply carried on so I’m guessing this was an error. ![]() The story was very well written and there were lots of excellent details that brought it to life. My favourite line was this one: This farm was built like the people it once sheltered and protected. I thought it was very descriptive and also told the readers a lot about those people, so I thought it was nicely done. I enjoyed the read. ![]() ![]()
