Hello, SandraLynn, aka nannamom!
INITIAL IMPRESSION / OVERVIEW:
I enjoyed reading and playing your "Ontario Spring" word search game today.
Your writing and game kept me riveted and I read and played straight through to the end.
MORE DETAILED FEEDBACK:
Happy Writing.Com Anniversary month! I saw this "Ontario Spring" word search game of yours sometime in the past and enjoyed it, but didn't have time to review it right then, so I flagged it for an anniversary review (meaning I saved the link to it in a special "April" file. ). I hope you enjoy this review as a celebration of your time here and find the review uplifting and encouraging. It is meant to be honest and respectful, in accordance with WDC guidelines.
I remember seeing your title, thinking "I love spring and am curious about what it might be like in Ontario," so your title drew me in and is what caused me to save your word search in the first place.
I loved your word search so much. It was full of spring things and it was neat to see how many we have in common with me being so far south of you and all. We have all the same flowers that you listed, Canadian geese, really everything except our own maple syrup. I could, of course, do without the ants, black flies, mosquitoes and house flies, but all the rest made me smile.
I loved how the whole board turned green when I found the last word.
My favorite line was the "Welcome to winter-is-finally-gone!" from your description because it made me smile. Spring is definitely a welcome relief from winter! Not that winter doesn't have its own beauty, but spring is nicer for me.
I appreciated your variety of words and that you included plants, animals, and milestones like more daylight and melting.
I thought you did a great job with selecting short and long words to look for too.
I wondered if you wrote this for some contest or challenge here?
I thought the activity, and nature genres you selected for this "Ontario Spring" word search game were appropriate matches for it.
My very favorite part was the flowers, as flowers are one of my favorite things about spring.
IDEAS TO MAKE YOUR PIECE STRONGER:
In the spirit of helpfulness, and because of the requirements of a new reviewing challenge I joined recently, I have some little suggestions to make your piece stronger. If you're interested in some constructive criticism, read on. But if you aren't, no worries. Just know that I enjoyed your piece and move on to the next section.
Still reading? You're brave! Yay for you!
This is a really nit-picky suggestion, but it was weird to me that some things were plural and some were singular and I didn't see a particular pattern for it. Even among the insects, some like black flies were plural and others, like "house fly", were singular. I'd recommend picking one or the other (probably the singular) unless there's a specific reason for it, like with "longer days." That should probably stay plural.
I'd recommend choosing third different genre, as we are allowed three, and people do search by genre here. Perhaps "games," "regional," "garden," "personal," or "experience” might be nice options to consider? There's a drop down list, as you know, because you had to use it to select “nature". I don't have it memorized; those are just some suggestions. The actual list will probably be more helpful. Just to show it's not only me who recommends this, moderator Schnujo's Giving Away GPs shared on the news feed in a comment on 2/21/2025 that “SM has told me, himself, that the #1 way people search for things to read on WdC is through the genre search, so if you aren't filling out all 3 genres, you are literally missing out on readers.” [On the very slim chance that you don't already know this, SM is our StoryMaster here, and definitely in the know.] If you want to see the note and scroll down to see her whole comment, here’s the link: "Note: View this Note".
It might help you get more future readers if you added a thumbnail picture to your "Ontario Spring" word search game, if your membership level allows that. Pictures are attention getting and could help your game stand out in a list of search results. I think a picture of spring flowers, or even better, one of spring in Ontario, would be nice.
As with any review, please take what serves you and release or ignore what doesn't.
CONCLUSION:
I enjoyed reading and playing your "Ontario Spring" word search game, and think it's a fabulous activity for anytime of the year.
Thank you for sharing your time, creativity, heart, experiences, and writing with the Writing.Com community!
Once again, happy anniversary month! I hope the year ahead is filled with blessings and joy for you!
May love, joy and peace be yours in abundance, during your anniversary month, and always!
