Wonderful sentiments, expressed very well. I like the metaphor of the sword and shield and the way the poem flows with different aspects of the relationship. The rhyme scheme works well.

My only slight quibble is that the poem seemed to end a little abruptly - I felt it needed a couple more lines to round it off. This is only my opinion, as the writer, you know best what works for you.
