| A Quiet Revolution Russell starts his own personal revolution |
| Hello, I'm one of the official judges for the following: "Rhythms & Writing: Official WDC Contest" ABOUT THIS STORY: A powerful emotional story that takes place in 1985 and looks at the time when Margaret Thatcher closed the coal mines. WHAT I LIKED: I liked the depiction of the local level growing upward theme. By highlighting Russell's life and how the strike effected the strikers, the author touches on deep emotion. Well done. INSPIRATION: The inspiration for this story is a song by Steve Earle called "Revolution Starts Now." The song was written in the early 2000's as he had political concerns over the Bush administration's direction it was taking the country. The song is a call to action emphasizing that democracy requires constant vigilance, active participation, and individual empowerment. Democracy starts at the local level and grows upward. That said, I'm looking for similar elements in the story. MY THOUGHTS I thought the story did a job portraying the following themes that you find in Steve Earle's song; Local level growing upward, active participation, and individual empowerment. The author uses a good economy of words to succinctly tap into emotion. Good luck in the contest. My review is affiliated with the Angel Army
