| FROM JELEE'S JOURNAL Science Fiction short story about women named Jelee |
| Hello, I'm one of the official judges for the following: "Rhythms & Writing: Official WDC Contest" ABOUT THIS STORY: The story takes place in the future and Jelee finds herself on a planet that she wasn't expecting to be on. As the story unfolds, the reader discovers that foul play maybe involved. WHAT I LIKED: I liked the ending. Jelee may have been sent to the planet in an attempt to get rid of her, but it turns out it all worked out in the end. INSPIRATION: The inspiration for this story is a song by Steve Earle called "Revolution Starts Now." The song was written in the early 2000's as he had political concerns over the Bush administration's direction it was taking the country. The song is a call to action emphasizing that democracy requires constant vigilance, active participation, and individual empowerment. Democracy starts at the local level and grows upward. That said, I'm looking for similar elements in the story. MY THOUGHTS The story incorporates themes of local action and active participation as it took inspiration from Steve Earle's song. I might suggest a minor edit for consistency in spelling. The storytelling is not smooth and jumps a little bit, so I had to re-read it with a bit more discernment to follow the plot. Good luck in the contest. My review is affiliated with the Angel Army
