That's a great way to describe the fireworks for the New Year's celebrations. It's true that it only lasts for a few hours. Sadly, it's not only on New Year's any longer. Now, (at least in the USA), people find reasons to light fireworks all year round. There is the obvious July 4, but even sports stadiums, amusement parks, and more light up the sky as if every day is a party.

For the sake of the rhyme "til next year" is the best possible ending here though.
