Long or short?

It may seem like a simple decision, setting a word limit on your contest or activity, or deciding whether to write short or long pieces. It can have big consequences, though!

Some consider short writing to be easier. It takes up less time, right? Have you ever tried to write a micro-fiction piece? If not, I recommend trying! I always recommend a challenge or trying something new! *Wink*

It can be tough to fit in what you're trying to convey into a short piece. I think there can be a misconception that a shorter piece will take less time, and that may be true, but not necessarily.

On the other side of things, hosting a contest for shorter pieces may make you think it will take less time, but also, not necessarily. Because of the misconception when it comes to how difficult it might be to write a short vs long piece, you might get more entries in a shorter work contest. That will mean more time to read and judge your entries!

So, when it comes to deciding whether to write short or long pieces or to host a contest for short vs long pieces, it should come down to what your preference is. Try to give yourself the time you'll need (and maybe some extra time thrown in just in case). Try something new and see how it goes! You just might be surprised. *Smile*

Take care, and as always, keep on writing! *Quill*
