I awoke from a restless nap, cuddling my pooch, who is terrified of thunderstorms. Alexa was playing "Relaxation for Dogs" music. It helped the dog calm down. I, meanwhile, was lying there listening to music (no words) that wasn't classical, wasn't meditative. One piece reminded me of fireflies on a June evening. Another, of a meadow walking up. Still haven't figured out how it calms animals, but she definitely calmed down more for the two I'll call dragonfly or buffalo.
On another level, I'd been mulling over what to write my newsletter about.
So, brains liking to mash things together (well, my mind does) I got to thinking about poetry that was like a dragonfly or a rampaging buffalo. Not, mind you, about a dragonfly, etc., but rather, written like one.
So, poets of WDC, I am challenging you to write a poem in the manner of an animal. Flittering butterflies or moths, fireflies as they dance, stampeding horses, showering elephants. Are the animals languid? Do they zip around like bats chasing mosquitoes or move as slow as a sloth? Deep water, shimmering or soaring high as an eagle? Goofy, one-footed, or regal? Be creative and stretch your creative prowess in a totally new direction! Form shouldn't matter (if you've a chosen favorite) but the style is what would matter. You 'can' use your animal in the poem, but the PRIMARY importance is the poem FEELING like whatever animal you pick. It should soar or swoop or wiggle or hop!
Be creative! Go a little crazy! Depending upon how many of you rise to the challenge, there are merit badges in the offering. A trophy for the best one overall! Please email me the item number! Must be new, of course.
Sits here thinking about which animal I will choose, because I have to rise to my own challenge. Only fair after all! Good Luck!
