About This Newsletter

My banner for the Action/Adventure Newsletter.

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” – Helen Keller

Action: The state of doing; organized activity to accomplish an objective.

Adventure: An undertaking of a hazardous nature; an unusual or exciting experience.

Adventures are experiences that create psychological arousal and excitement, but not all experiences can be adventures. What makes an experience an adventure?

1. It’s got to be remarkable
2. It’s worthy talking about
3. It involves adversity or perceived risk
4. It brings about personal growth.

One area you can find these opportunities are adventure sports.

I’m
StephBee Author IconMail Icon and I’m your Action/Adventure Guest Editor this week.

Letter from the editor

Adventure sports are typically outdoors, in nature, and involve a high degree of risk. Some examples of adventure sports include:

Skiing
White Water Rafting
Rock Climbing
Scuba Diving
Mountain Biking
Snowboarding
And there are many more!

Adventure sports can push us to our personal limits in challenging environments. They can help us develop confidence, resilience, and mental toughness.

Part of the appeal of adventure sports is that it allows us to escape our everyday life and lets us experience the outdoors in a meaningful way. It also benefits us by contributing to our physical fitness, improving focus and concentration, and helps us to reduce stress and anxiety. Adventure sports provide a vivid background when you're incorporating "man vs nature" themes into your writing.

Question for you: Are you involved in any adventure sports? If not, what one would you like to try?

If you’ve written a story involving adventure sports, please share and I’ll feature it in my March Newsletter.

This is similar to starting in media res, and a lot of short story publishers like that.
