What did it feel like to fall? |
| Angel How long did you fall through the burning blue? Each muscle and sinew taught and flexed Against the battering torrents of the air that vexed As you plunged through the azure sunlit skies And your wings were torn from your back by knives Of hailstones shrouded in cloud on high. How loud did you scream into the vast abyss Of whirling forget-me-not and winter's kiss Numbing the stumps of broken bone and feather, Freezing the ligaments that held them together, Swallowing your cry as you uttered it forth, The merciless wind of the arctic north. How did it feel when you finally fell, Into the wild vast ocean's spray and swell, Of indigo, violet, turquoise and green, Angry and frightening, cold and clean, Removing the last vestiges of perfect purity, Cleaning your wounds and aporting humanity, To an angel who once sat in the courts of the King. |
