| He fears for his soul should he contradict himself All his life he's been taught to be sure of himself For isn't a man measured by the strength of his word? If he longs to be free, will his name be remembered? The chains of committment are wearing him down The weight of obligation keeps him bound to the ground In the air there awaits another avian in flight With new found wings, she flies rings in plain sight All the while he looks up, he smiles at that form A new promise, a new hope in the eye of his storm And it crushes his heart to think of a promise once made In the heat of a passion, in the illusion of bed So he vows that this time things will be different And he fights hard against the restraints of his prison Till he finally breaks free and together they soar In search of new horizons and bright glistening shores Eventually they land and take stock of each other New committments are made, obligations considered A fresh alliance is forged, like steel bright and blue And just like an old friend, the cycle starts all anew Gerard Singh |
