If for a time my ears were blind
To every sort of speech
Would stronger eyes soon find
Or could the mind not reach ?

If for a time my eyes were deaf
To every kind of light
And words were all that's left
Would men have greater sight ?

If for a time my nose was dumb
And no more scent could shout
Would it make men numb
Or would it give them clout?

If for a time my mouth was stale
And not a smell could speak
Would savors we inhale
Be worth the lungs to keep

If not a nerve could feel
Would life be worth the struggle
If not a vain could bleed
Then why give time the trouble
