A poem about a young mute girl longing to be free. |
| I cry out, but no sound escapes my lips. I reach out, but nothing is in my reach. I try to get her attention, I shout and I yell. But my mother does not hear me, and she does not care. Who wants a mute child? Not her, that's who. I am starving, starving for words I cannot speak. No one listens, but how could they? I keep everything inside, for where else would I keep it? And I stay, imprisoned in silence, until someone comes to turn the tide. |
