This is about how consumerism can overcome and conquer the human spirit if we allow it to.
COVET

Wanting
Reaching always - stretching my hands out farther
Until the sinews bare thin under the pressure

Fingertips
Tips of bone - pushing hard against the skin
Until the ends become white and bare

Goodness
Escaping me - slipping out from clefts of my heart
While my soul follows suit and sneaks out through the hole

Coveting
Desire aching - in my loins, in my mind
The thoughts of what I want but don’t have

Consuming
Never refreshed - never a fully belly
Or a sigh of pleasant relief

Motivated
Driven by self - through spoken word and intended deed
I act only to gain

Capitalist
So thankful - for only the opportunity
To take more, to get more, to accumulate more

Hidden
Behind a smile - a smile that means nothing
More than a means to an end

Revealing
The truth - about myself and what this world has done
To me, what it has made me

Shatter
My paradigm - the world within a world
That I built for myself

Stolen
A dirty gift - built for myself from the legs of your hard work
And selfless toil

Tired
You should be - I spent all that you made me in just one day
And then I spent all of what you made for yourself today, too.
