Out of Breath

one of my favorite that i submitted in a contest and will be published hope you like it

The dark browns and greens are blurring by,

                  Tree after tree,

              Shrub after shrub.

        Swiftly gliding over the earth

          Each step taken with heart.

          Not knowing where to go

The forest greeneries stretching out ahead

And the sound of footsteps, heard from behind

          Grow closer, louder, faster!

          My eyes are shut so tight

    Tears are streaming down my cheek.

                I open my eyes

          To nothing, a dark abyss.

                Out of breath

            And scared to death!

    Looking around and calming myself

            I lay my head down,

Close my eyes; drift back into my sleep.
