How far would you go to get away from danger

Would you
dive off a cliff
in the pitch blackness
of a moonless night
not knowing what lies beneath
Rocks or Water?

would you
dive off a cliff
to save yourself
from hell on earth
not death but worse?

and what would
you think
on the way down
would you listen
for the sound of the waves
only hearing the wind
as it rushed through your hair?

would you make
your peace with death
before you hit the bottom?
would you call yourself
a coward
because you did not
stay and fight?

Fighting is done with now
only time for one more heartbeat
before you hit.
