Why I LIKE writing reviews

I received a comment to a review I wrote. In the review I told the author how much her work really touched me. She replied: “That’s why I write.”

Please don’t misunderstand me, I love to pen my own thoughts and see them firm on paper. Nothing helps me connect the dots into an understandable picture than penning thoughts on page.

But there is something about reading what you write that makes me a better person. When you draw your own picture there is so much more of life I see:

1. You can take me a place, evoke a feeling, I’ve never felt. I learn more of what it means to be human from your words.
2. You can tell me of a joy or pain that I have experienced, thus letting me know I’m not alone. One of the greatest comforts in my life is knowing there is someone out there who has walked in my shoes and understands.
3. You can guide me on my journey. There are many roads I have not traveled yet, but I know they are coming. Your guidance gives me hope in facing a frightening future.
4. If we disagree, and we will, you challenge me to question my long held beliefs. I may not change, but my view had more meaning. Plus, I now have a better understanding of who you are.
5. There are so many ways to connect words together to express the human heart. Stories, poems, essays. I am not well versed in any one form, so reading how you put your words together can teach me how to join my own.

This is why I write reviews. I want you to know how your words have impacted my life. Thank you for sharing your heart, so I can grow.
