A poem about the internal struggle between reason and passion, one we can all appreciate. |
| I strive to live by reason To do what’s sensible Mostly To act with intent Always To limit emotion To live by feeling is treason Reason is a learned trait It’s not intuitive For me It is a battle Hard fought I slowly come to see My mind is not a blank slate Passion and emotion drive me Clouding my judgment Of reason Causing me pain Without end It’s both habit and burden Reason and logic hold the key For me, reason is much sought Pleasure is rarely reasonable Nay rational Comprehension rarely follows fervour Alas for me They are the unholy alliance For me, passion is lack of thought The pieces of the board are lost This board being the brain I desire for reasons Unknowingly I think with passion Regrettably These are problems I cannot gloss Reason won’t triumph, a balance is sought For the mind is quite broken Passion rules the roost The hierarch Reason plays second fiddle The labourer Give me equilibrium, in act and in thought |
