One Day in May

A poem about parting

I will walk away now
Though my heart yearns for more
I will turn my back
Though you have loved me from the depths of your soul

I will walk away now
For you have given me all that you can

It is time

For I know the path that you follow
Having been there myself
And knowing, I would have you go no further

What you have given me is priceless
Beyond any gift I could desire
Your love has led me gently back to myself
Something I could not have done alone

You looked into my soul
And loved me for who I am
Where I saw horror and sadness
You saw life and love

You let me love you
Though I no longer felt capable
You loved me
Though I no longer felt loveable

You saved me, spared my life
And for one moment, two hearts connected
And knew that life was indeed worth living

The tears I cry are of joy
For the love you and I have known
However briefly

Do not cry
For I knew this day would come
Carry my love in your heart
And what we shared will live on
