A poem about cupid, who sometimes appears to be a jokester... inspired by a contest

Oh cupid….
you trickster you;
I think it’s time you took a sabbatical,
you and that little arrow you use.
You’re arrow is crooked
or your aim isn’t all that straight.
You need to give it a rest.
I’m tired of the shenanigans you play.
With a poke from your arrow,
you have me falling in love.
A few weeks or months, I realize I’ve been had;
but by then it is too late to run.
My poor heart just can't take any more.
It is time to face the facts,
I'm too old and tired for the games you have in store;
I can no longer brace my heart for impact.
This year I’m staying out of your way
I plan to stay home with chocolate,
doors closed, curtains drawn…
you can find yourself another target.
I’m tired of seeing your smiling face,
knowing the tricks you have in mind.
I know you are just doing your job,
but I don’t think I will participate this time.
