Today's entry for writer's cramp competition

I did it once; I’ll never do it again,
The emotions were too much to bear,
I’ve put my heart through too much pain -
I have no more love to share.

Looking back on years gone by,
To a past so dear and sweet,
When at first my heart did spy
Those ivory angel feet,

Her hair varied in raven tones,
Her cheeks were all a-glow,
Her eyes stood out like crystal stones
Upon the soft white snow.

But appearances lie and cover the truth,
The deceit, the devil and coward,
The innocence was lost from youth
Now love is forever soured.

I vow to learn from all mistakes,
I will never do it again,
My heart will stay mute for its own sake
I will protect myself from pain.
