2006- 4453 farmers commited suicide in Maharashtra accouting to a quarter of all India total of 17,060.

NCRB- 2005-2009 survey had the toll of suicides that took place in various states,
Gujrat-387, Kerala-905, Punjab-75, TamilNadu26.

No proper counselling on how to perform a changing economy.

Scissors Crisis- increase in the demands of industrial products versus the agro based.

POPULAR OUTLOOK

Indian Government - Special emphasis towards small and marginal farmers because of rising input costs,many with small land holdings are now giving up on farming as a vocation.
- Emphasis on allied farming activities so that farmers can supplement their income.

Bollywood Masala- Award winning movies like Kisaan, Peepli Live and The Dying Fields focused on issues relating to farmer suicides.
