Written for Stormy's poetry contest river lanterns owl merry echoes moonbeams weeps cloak

As the cloak of night blankets the sky,
the silvery moonbeams jump sporadically
through the trees standing ceremoniously on the river bank.

They bear witness to the passing of time.

The weeping willow weeps
and the owl hoots a warning;
their echoes carried by the wind to all that will hear.

But I sit silently
with my lanterns burning bright,
waiting for you to appear.

The calmness of the night
soon giving way to the warning of the owl;
when the merry birds usher the sunny morning in,

and you have yet come.
