When You Stood Beside Me

How Jesus stood with me even when I wasn't aware He was there

Jesus stood by me
When I wasn't aware
He watched me grow
I didn't know He was there.

The time when the plaster fell
Where my head would have been
He moved me the night before
He'd already seen,

Where my life was heading
The path I would tread
He even knew
I would live days in dread

Through childhood betrayal
He wept by my side
I was just angry
Those I loved had lied

Through serious illness
Guiding the surgeon's hand
Saving my life
So that whole I would stand.

For blessings of children
Whose love was so new
I'm thankful to Jesus
For the two of you

It took many years
For me to find You
My Saviour, my Healer
But You always knew

There'd be a time
When pain overcame
I'd search for your arms
When I wanted to blame

Those who had hurt me
When I was young
But once in my heart
You sang Your song

So today I am thankful
For all of those days
When You stood beside me
In so many ways.
