Daily flash fiction entry. for 2/5/22

“Did you hear that?”

I frowned and listened with my whole body. “No.”

“Are you sure? A low growl?”

I shook my head, and went back to my book.

“There it was again!”

I lowered my book and glared at her. “Would you stop it!”

“Honey, I swear. There is something in the house with us!”

I looked at her, really looked at her. She was frightened. “I’ll check it out!” I got out of bed and searched the house from top to bottom, coming last to the bedroom. A creature knelt over my wife muzzle deep in her chest.
