“Don’t jump” he said
To the 82nd airborne division
And it was met most favourably,
Because you cannot welcome jumping
When you are eating pizza
Without some severe blows
To your digestive system
And your world-view generally.
Mr. President was not ignorant
Neither of this nor of anything else —
So he just sat down and began eating.
And anxious eyes
Of ten in ten of the free world
Watched his jaws moving.
Was the pizza good enough?
Was Putin impressed enough
Not to use his nuclear weapons
To leave just a pizzaless desert
In a homeless world?
No one can know Putin’s mind.
But we all know the heart of Mister Biden now:
Warm and calm and enjoying
The kind and challenging pizza,
Cooked by some optimistic mom
On the brink of no moms at all.
